Beer and Wine Tastings Merge at Rose’s Tasting Room in San Diego
Rose’s Tasting Room is San Diego’s destination for beer and wine tasting. But when Julie Crider and her husband, Clark, began the business, they had no idea that they would be starting a new trend.
The idea for a beer and wine tasting room came from their long-distance relationship. “We would drive around looking for wineries and beer tastings based on our mood at the time,” says Julie.
However, choosing between a winery or brewery wasn’t always an easy decision. Their craving for both sparked their idea to open a tasting room of their own that offered both wine and beer.
Four years later, they are reaping the benefits of catering to “mixed couples” – dates where one person likes beer and the other prefers wine. In case you didn’t know, tastings are a fun and profitable way for customers to learn about your inventory. Read on to learn why their tasting bar is flourishing.
Simple Technology for a Simple Idea
Julie has been using NCR Silver Pro Restaurant Edition to keep a smooth-running business and an organized staff.
Because her idea was simple, she wanted a comprehensive point-of-sale system to match its simplicity, where inventory is easy to track and operating it was just as easy for employees with little training. “We use the restaurant version because it seemed to be pretty simple to use, which is why I chose it,” says Julie.
She also wanted the ability to integrate her POS with Paychex to export time clocks for seamless payroll reporting.
“The Paychex export option simplifies payroll and saves me time,” says Julie. She and her husband use Paychex to organize their expenses and get their employees paid on time.
Her advice to other small businesses? “Even if you think an idea is too obvious or that someone has done it, check into it anyways, four years ago we never thought that we would be doing this because it seemed too obvious that there was a need,” says Julie.
The Team Gives Back
This small business is also more than happy to support a great cause in their community.
Throughout the year, Julie and her business gives back to the community. The Cabrillo National Monument Foundation is one of several organizations they work with, and the team at Rose’s Tasting Room arrives at the event, donates wine and even pours it for free.
They are also regular attendees at the oldest annual beer festival in San Diego – the San Diego Professionals Against Cancer Beer Fest – that started 23 years ago.
Shop Small During the Halloween Season
Every year, San Diego celebrates Dia de Los Muertos in their small shopping district. So, if you’re looking for something fun to do during the Halloween season, head to Rose’s Tasting Room for a scary-good time with Calavera Catrina, the decorated skeleton and the skull of Day of the Dead – otherwise known as Rose’s Tasting Room’s wait staff.
