Miss Kay’s Sweets and Eats Uses NCR Silver to Turn Quick Sales
If you ever watched Duck Dynasty on A&E, then you’ve probably heard of this NCR Silver customer.
Small business owner Kay Robertson was known for her family and home-cooked meals on the hit cable TV show, and today she’s profiting from her lifelong love of cooking. In 2016, she teamed up with her granddaughter, Alex Mancuso, to open Miss Kay’s Sweets and Eats in West Monroe, Louisiana.
Alex, a culinary school graduate, has helped her grandmother build her restaurant into a successful and unique business that sells treats, eats and retail merchandise in store and online.
From baked goods to coffee and cookbooks, read on to learn how NCR Silver helps them boost profits and ease their operations.
Speedy transaction time is one of the many ways to best service your customers. That’s why the team at Miss Kay’s groups frequently sold items under Favorites for quick access at the point of sale.
“Having the ability to create favorites makes it faster for our staff to ring up customers. With so many popular purchases, it’s handy to have a place to quickly find these products,” says Alex.
“I also enjoy the sales reports. It’s great to see specific reporting that gets down to a detailed level and I love to see what the average transaction amounts are and to see how many of each item sold and when. The system updates immediately,” says Alex.
NCR Silver has greatly helped Miss Kay’s Sweets and Eats manage existing employees and easily train new ones.
“We love the user interface because it makes it easy to train our staff and track their hours worked,” says Alex.
The restaurant uses the integrated time clock to allow their employees to clock in and out, which in turn gives their bookkeeper a way to export all relevant information to QuickBooks to manage payroll.
Miss Kay’s uses MailChimp with NCR Silver to send out email blasts for daily specials, catering and events. They market opportunites like five-course Valentine’s Day meals, parties, specials for the start of baseball season, guest chef appearances, and even catering and delivery services.
“We like to be different from the typical restaurant. We set up televisions for baseball games and serve traditional (buffet style) nachos, hot dogs, popcorn,” says Alex. “We love using NCR Silver to promote all of our unique events.”
The restaurant also markets to their thousands of followers on social media, and uses punch cards but plans to start using the NCR Silver integrated digital loyalty in the future.
Shop Small this March
March is Women’s History Month, and the grandmother-grandaughter duo has already made waves by opening in their historic location– a piece of Louisiana history that dates back to the 1920’s.
Here’s their advice for other female entrepreneurs looking to make it in the restaurant industry:
“Having our own business has been a great experience to share with our family and customers. My advice to anyone looking to open up a small business is to stick it out. There have been so many times I’ve gone home tired and I didn’t want to go back to work the next day but know what you’re doing is worth it,” says Alex.
Stop by Miss Kay’s Sweets and Eats for a bite to eat or a cup of coffee. They are open Monday from 11 AM to 3 PM and Tuesday through Saturday from 8 AM to 5 PM.
