What Does Your Sign Say About You as A Leader? An astrologer explains your strengths and weaknesses as laid out in the stars.
There are many ways to learn about the leadership style you’re wired for, from looking to your Myers-Briggs personality inventory to finding out which bird your leadership style resembles. Here’s another, for the mystically inclined: your astrological sign.
Regardless of what drives your underlying tendencies, understanding how you make decisions, interact with others and get things done can help you become a stronger, more effective leader.
Susie Cox, as astrologer who consults for businesses and individuals, outlined for NCR Silver the dominant traits of each sign as they relate to leadership (including positive traits and ones to be overcome) as well as the one word or phrase that best describes your strength or focus.
Aries (March 21-April 19): Initiative. The first day of spring occurs when the sun moves into Aries, and Aries is first sign of the Zodiac. Cox said of people born under this sign, “They go in and say ‘let’s try this. This is a great idea.’ They initiate.” Their challenge is that they burn out easily. “They are not the best at follow-through.”
Taurus (April 20-May 20): Follow-through. Taurus signs know how to get things done. “They look at the organizational part of a project and figure out ‘how do we move from here to there to there,’” said Cox. Their challenge is that they get stuck because they follow the rules, and they aren’t flexible. “They’re resistant to change.”
Gemini (May 21-June 20): Communication. Geminis are great communicators and team players. “They are very smart and foster communication amongst everybody,” said Cox. Their weakness is that they try a lot of things at once, and know a little bit about a whole lot of things. “It’s almost too many ideas coming through at one time.”
Cancer (June 21-July 22): Community. Cancers are all about helping the world and doing community outreach. According to Cox, they cultivate relationships and create families within their circles. While they love others, they can be clingy and needy. “They want certain people around them,” she said. “And they get their feelings hurt easily.”
Leo (July 23-Aug. 22): Boss. Leos are naturally good at running things. “They have a sense of everybody looking up to them and think they should tell everyone what to do,” said Cox. They are not able to give up control; their challenge is to realize that not everything has to go their way.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Organization. Virgos are excellent at research and figuring things out. They can determine what needs to be fixed when something goes wrong. However, they often get too detailed and focus on one little problem, said Cox.
Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): Cooperation. Libras are the diplomats of the Zodiac and the team players. They encourage everyone to work together. Unfortunately, they are not good at making decisions. Cox said, “They depend on the team to make the decision instead of them doing it by themselves.”
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): Strategy. Scorpios know how to get from A to Z and are strategic in their planning. “The challenge is that they are not the best communicators because they are secretive,” said Cox. “They assume you understand things and don’t explain them well.”
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): The big picture. People born under the Sagittarius sign are very good at looking at the big picture. But they tend to burn the candle at both ends, said Cox. “They think they have to stay up all night to finish something. They put off things until the last minute and then feel the pressure.”
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): Goal oriented. Capricorns make great project managers and do well when they oversee projects. They’re set in their ways, though, and are not flexible or open-minded, said Cox.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): Humanity. Like Cancer, those born under Aquarius have a strong desire to make the world a better place. While they are friendly, they lack compassion and are independent to a fault. “They have to do it their own way,” said Cox. “Aquarius is a sign of entrepreneurs. They say, ‘Nobody is going to tell me what to do.’”
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20): Intuition. Pisces lead by their intuition. They will do something that feels right rather than research it first. They trust their gut feelings, which can be both negative and positive. According to Cox, they can also be spacey and disorganized.
Cox cautioned that everyone is a combination of all the signs. “Nobody is 100 percent their sun sign. It’s not the only part of you.”
She also said, “It’s important to be the optimum of your sign. For an Aries, you want to be inspirational instead of angry. For Taurus, you want to be solid instead of stuck. If you’re in the positive part of your sign, you get along well with all other signs.”
